    Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Chronic fatigue syndrome is a condition distinguished by unresolved, persistent fatigue that severely reduces activity levels for six months or more.

The cause of chronic fatigue syndrome is not known, but it is thought to be the result of a virus or other infection as there is a deficiency in the white blood cells that fight infection.

There is an apparent link between chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia as people with chronic fatigue syndrome are frequently found to have fibromyalgia and 85% of people with fibromyalgia experience a moderate to severe level of fatigue. Similar to fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome is three times more common in women than men.

People with chronic fatigue syndrome experience symptoms including aching muscles and joints, spasm, swollen lymph nodes, respiratory infections, anxiety, depression and sleep disturbances.

There is no medical cure for chronic fatigue syndrome, although some people do recover spontaneously.

At the Pain Care Clinic we have found myofascial release and advanced massage techniques to be effective in alleviating some of the symptoms of chronic fatigue, although care must be taken to keep sessions short to avoid further fatigue for the client.

Please see case studies and testimonials.

The Pain Care Clinic specialises in myofascial release and advanced massage therapy for private clients with medical diagnoses of chronic pain conditions and acute pain or injuries.
